Purdue University Northwest (PNW) is a public regional university in Indiana and part of the Purdue University system, formed in 2016 through the merger of Purdue Calumet and Purdue North Central. It operates two campuses: the main urban campus in Hammond, located about 25 miles southeast of downtown Chicago, and the rural Westville campus, situated near Indiana Dunes National Park. Serving around 9,000 students, PNW offers more than 70 undergraduate and graduate programs through six colleges and three schools, with strong accreditation in areas such as business (AACSB) and engineering (ABET). The university’s athletics teams, known as the Purdue Northwest Pride, compete in NCAA Division II within the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Campus life is enriched by facilities like the Dowling Park athletic complex, the Fitness Center, and apartment-style housing at the Hammond campus, as well as the scenic Gabis Arboretum—a 360-acre nature preserve managed by the university. PNW combines the resources of a large university with the supportive environment of a close-knit community, offering students both vibrant city access and peaceful rural surroundings.
