About the University

The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), located in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, is a public liberal arts and science university established in 1969 through the merger of Prince of Wales College and Saint Dunstan’s University. It is the only university in the province and has since grown into a globally recognized institution with ten faculties and two schools, including Arts, Business, Education, Nursing, Science, Sustainable Design Engineering, and Veterinary Medicine, along with the soon-to-open Faculty of Medicine in Fall 2025. UPEI also operates a campus in Cairo, Egypt, offering Canadian-accredited degrees, and maintains exchange partnerships in more than 27 countries. The university enrolls over 5,800 students, with nearly 2,000 international students representing more than 90 countries, creating a diverse and inclusive learning environment. Known for its small class sizes and strong student support, UPEI provides more than $11 million in scholarships annually and emphasizes career-focused education. It has a strong research culture, with over $17 million in annual research expenditures and specialized centers such as the Atlantic Veterinary College, the Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation, and the L.M.
